The last Rose of Summer - Letzte Rose
The Last Rose of Summer is a poem written by Irish poet Thomas Moore in 1805. Sir John Stevenson (1761-1833) set the poem to its widely known melody, which was published in December 1813 in volume 5 of a collection of Moore’s work named as “A Section of Irish Melodies”.
The German composer Friedrich von Flotow included “The Last Rose of Summer” in his opera “Martha” as a sort of leitmotif for love.
